Biography
Rob Soar previously of Essex and Lincolnshire and most recently of the East Riding of Yorkshire is a self taught artist who has expanded a natural talent for drawing into a distinctive style of painting mainly in acrylics, with focus on landscapes and seascapes.
He believes that one of the drawbacks of being self taught is that it makes it harder to break into the traditional art 'set' but the benefits come from the self exploration involved in producing a piece without a set of rules.
Having visited Dali exhibitions both in Florida and London Rob loved the easy flowing work he produced. That as well as the work of Clarice Cliff has been the inspiration for a number of earlier pieces. Rob says, I have always been drawn to bright colours, I like to experiment and have dabbled with driftwood and wire sculpturally, and encaustic wax art but always return to vivid colours that can be achieved most readily with acrylic paint.
Recent exhibitions have included Picturecraft Gallery in Holt, Norfolk and Chelmsford's Shire Hall Rob together with his wife Lorna, also an artist are looking forward to showing their work on The Artistsweb.
Rob's seascapes and coastal towns are rapidly becoming desirable to both visitors and residents alike and he has received commissions from owners of holiday homes.
Rob views his painting as a happy recreational pastime which he will continue to develop and hopes to experiment with other media too in the future.
In addition to painting Rob also uses his imagination to create jewellery pieces, picking beads and stones from Lorna's stock from her jewellery component business, 'All That Jazz - Crafts'. Rob's particular interest is wire wrapping using unusual items or beads etc and some of these can be found on Lorna's site.
Lorna will shortly be displaying a range of her own paintings here so keep coming back to check...........
